Duxbury, Vt. – On Saturday, April 5 from 9 AM to 3 PM, almost 600 people are expected to attend the 8th LEAP Energy Fair, one of the largest such events in Vermont. The Fair will take place at the Crossett Brook Middle School (CBMS) gym in Duxbury (5672 VT Route 100).

The Fair’s location is fitting. CBMS now has the most solar capacity of any school in Vermont thanks to the construction of a recent array, and Waterbury and Duxbury have quadrupled their total solar capacity over the past two years thanks in part to active outreach efforts by Waterbury LEAP.

At this free, family-friendly fair attendees can talk to experts and tour more than 75 exhibits about solar power, energy incentives, energy audits, weatherization, E-vehicles, geothermal, biomass, wind, pellet stoves, and many other subjects.

There will be free E-Waste Recycling from noon to 3 PM andmany hands-on outside exhibits including several E-vehicles, a weatherization trailer, a pellet stove display, and more. Waterbury Farmer’s Market will join the Fair again this year, and Marko the Magician will give a free show for children at 11 AM.

In the late morning (exact time TBD) a group of eight CBMS students will receive the LEAP Green Community award for their E-Waste recycling program. Each year the trophy is given by Governor Peter Shumlin or Senator Bernie Sanders. Both are hoping to attend the Fair, schedules permitting.

The Fair will also include breakout sessions with local experts on important topics including:

10 AM: Energy Efficiency 101 – Top ways to Save energy and money
11 AM: Going Solar – What are my options, and how do I decide?
Noon: Sustainable Transportation – Vanpools, carpools, electric vehicles, and more!
1 PM Heat Pumps – A powerful way to save energy and money

The nonprofit Waterbury LEAP (Local Energy Action Partnership) hosts this annual fair.
