Alabama Power is now receiving wind energy from an agreement with TradeWind Energy.

Alabama Power Co. has started receiving wind energy from Oklahoma as part of a 2011 power purchase agreement.

The Birmingham-based utility is getting the energy from the Chisholm View Wind Project, which was developed by TradeWind Energy on more than 80 square miles in Grant and Garfield counties.

Alabama Power and TradeWind are also working on another wind energy project in Kansas that was approved by the Alabama Public Service Commission.

When they are both fully operational, the wind agreements will produce up to 404 megawatts of energy, enough to power the equivalent of 115,000 homes.
