Wind Prospect and EDF have been refused permission for the nine-turbine Breaker Hill wind farm in South Ayrshire.

Local authority councillors voted against the around 18MW wind farm in line with a planning recommendation.

Breaker Hill development manager Rory Carmichael said: “We are disappointed by today’s decision, especially given the changes that were made to the wind farm design following feedback during the consultation process.

“Once published, we will review the decision notice and consider the next steps to take.”

Revised plans were filed last year for the wind farm, which had previously been rejected by the council in a 15-turbine layout with 99-metre tips.

Tip heights at the project near Pinwherry are set at 86.5 metres.
