Britons support renewable energies by an overwhelming majority, with just 5 per cent saying they are against green alternatives.

The Department of Energy and Climate Change has conducted a quarterly survey on public attitudes to a range of energy and climate issue for the last two years and the eighth set of results show public support is unwavering.

The latest report shows 77 percent of Brits support “the use of renewable energy for providing our electricity, fuel and heat.” Some 51 percent ‘support’ renewables and 26 percent ‘strongly support’ the technology behind green energy, while only four percent ‘oppose’ them and one per cent ‘strongly oppose’ them.

The study looked at a wide range of features of renewable energy including on-shore and off-shore wind farms, biomass, wave and tidal power and solar technology and in each case the results showed a health majority in support.
