Button Up, New Hampshire! That’s the message the New Hampshire utilities are spreading to homeowners through a series of energy saving workshops taking place around the state.

Two Button Up NH Workshops are scheduled to take place in Manchester in March and April. The first will be on Wednesday, March 26, at the Southern NH Planning Commission, 438 Dubuque St. The second will be held Wednesday, April 9, at PSNH, 780 N Commercial St. Both workshops will be held from 6:30 – 8:00pm. The Southern NH Planning Commission is sponsoring these free workshops and refreshments will be served.

Button Up NH workshops are designed to provide homeowners with information and techniques to help them save money on home energy use. The presentation is conducted by an independent certified energy professional. Participants will learn basic building science concepts and learn about air sealing, insulating, and conservation measures that reduce fuel and electricity use.

“This winter has shown that more work and education is needed in energy conservation and efficiency to significantly decrease demand for non-sustainable energy supplies that are becoming increasingly more expensive to homeowners and renters,” states David Preece, SNHPC Executive Director. “Energy conservation and sustainable energy is integral to the economic and environmental well-being of the Southern NH Planning Commission region.”

Workshop participants will learn how to sign up for Home Performance with Energy Star (HPwES) – a program run by the energy efficiency services at Liberty Utilities, PSNH, NH Electric Coop and Unitil. HPwES is open to all NH families and is solely based on whether your home has a higher than average heating fuel bill. By signing up for the HPwES program, NH residents can access a Home Energy Audit for $100, financial incentives up to $4,000, and technical expertise.
According to Craig Cadieux, a BPI Certified Building Analyst and Button Up Presenter, “The Home Performance with Energy Star program is something every homeowner should consider. It gives homeowners the assistance they need to make energy efficiency improvements to their homes. When a homeowner participates in the program, they will receive a list of recommendations for cost-effective energy efficiency improvements and will have the opportunity to decide what, if any, work they want done on their home.”

These workshops are being funded by Liberty Utilities, NH Electric Coop, PSNH and Unitil. The Plymouth Area Renewable Energy Initiative (PAREI) of Plymouth, NH is working with local groups statewide to bring this important information to the public on behalf of New Hampshire’s utilities.
