Centralia homeowner nabs thief with shopping bag of loot

 OPPcruiserSOUTH HURON– A homeowner in Centralia nabbed a thief with a shopping bag full of items from his house yesterday.

At approximately 5:40 p.m. a homeowner from Portland Street saw a woman standing on his porch holding a shopping bag of tools and housewares.  At first glance, he thought it was a relative, but the woman took off running down the street, with the homeowners at her heels. A short distance later the property owner and a neighbour were able to detain her until police arrived.

The fleeing suspect was arrested and searched by police.  In addition to the bag of stolen property, a stolen cell phone and a stun gun were found in her possession.

As a result, a 35-year-old woman from South Huron is charged with break and enter, possession stolen property under $5,000, theft under $5,000, and unauthorized possession of a weapon. She remains in custody with a hearing scheduled for Aug. 12, 2013 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.

COPPER WIRE STOLEN FROM TRANSMISSION TOWER SITES

HURON COUNTY – Huron County OPP officers are investigating a string of copper wire thefts located in South Huron and Bluewater.

Over the past week, officers have been alerted to seven separate incidents of theft of copper ground wire stolen from cell phone transmission towers.   Those responsible have forced entry through the security fences and once inside they have stolen the exposed copper ground wire.  The stolen copper wire is primarily ¾-inch insulated wire.

Transmission towers located on Babylon Line, Goshen Line, Grand Bend Line, Mollard Line and MacDonald Road have been targeted.

The total value of the stolen copper wire is unknown at this point however it is believed to be in the thousands.

“If you see something suspicious or a crime in progress please contact police immediately,” said Huron County OPP Sgt. Dale Bray, asking for the public’s assistance.   

For crimes in progress immediately call 9-1-1and continually update police with a description of the events that are unfolding.

THIEF STEALS COPPER WIRE FROM LOCOMOTIVE

GODERICH - Huron County OPP officers are investigating the theft of copper wire stolen from a Goderich- Exeter Railway locomotive.  Sometime over the Civic Day holiday weekend those responsible stole four 30-foot sections of high grade one-inch copper wire from the side of the locomotive.  The locomotive had been parked behind the Goderich-Exeter Railway office located on Maitland Road North.

The replacement value of the stolen copper wire is estimated to be near $1,600.
