WARREN, Ind. (21Alive) – Say “wind farm” in Huntington, and you’ll surely hear from many residents opposed to the idea, but there is another side to the wind farm coin.

Citizens for Wind Power say they’re not against wind energy, they’re just not in favor of changing Huntington County’s ordinance regarding wind farms.

Huntington County commissioners drafted a wind farm ordinance back in 2009, but some residents at Monday night’s informational meeting in Warren say they hadn’t heard of the matter until recently.

Although the ordinance is already in place, and Apex Wind Company has made its intentions to develop a wind farm in Plum Tree known, people now want to change it.

Wind Power organizer Luke Vickrey says whether someone is for or against wind farms, it’s important to read the ordinance and do their own research.

“I think it’s important not to believe everything that you hear from either side. Go out, talk to people in other areas that already have the wind turbines. Do you own research, so that way you’re comfortable with the information that you have and that you’ve read and don’t have to depend on anything that come from one group or the other,” he said.

The proposed wind farm is still in its preliminary stages.

A public meeting regarding the wind farm and the ordinance will be held Wednesday (May 10) at 7 p.m. in the Huntington North High School auditorium. Representatives from Apex are expected to be there.
