A coalition of almost two dozen groups plans to launch a campaign Wednesday that calls for more solar power in the Sunshine State, including replacement of some of Duke Energy’s coal plants with sun-driven units.

Led by the Sierra Club, the organization, dubbed the Sunshine State Clean Energy Coalition, has scheduled a 10 a.m. rally in Williams Park across the street from Duke’s St. Petersburg headquarters.

Among those scheduled to speak at the rally are City Council member-elect Darden Rice; Dr. Lynn Ringenberg, local president of the Physicians for Social Responsibility and Tim Heberlein, political director, Florida Consumer Action Network.
