Council scheme kick-starts green energy deal

RESIDENTS could benefit from a new scheme to make homes more energy efficient.

West Oxfordshire householders can apply for one of 200 free assessments as part of the Government’s Green Deal scheme, which aims to stop rising bills by improving energy efficiency of homes.

The scheme allows householders to get a Green Deal loan to pay for improvement work and they then repay the costs through the property’s electricity bill through the energy savings achieved.

There are 45 measures available including insulation, double glazing and new boiler or heating systems and solar panels.

An assessment must be carried out by a Green Deal approved advisor and work done by an approved installer.

David Harvey, cabinet member for environment at West Oxfordshire District Council, said: “This is a great opportunity for local residents to get free expert advice and find out exactly what improvements would be best for their homes, and whether they may be able to get Green Deal funding for this.

“We are expecting a lot of interest.”

Residents complete a pre-assessment and book an appointment, which must take place by the end of May, at greendealtogether. org or call 0300 111 333.
