A decision by the Department of Hawaiian Home Lands executive board is expected Friday on a Green Energy Team LLC proposal to turn 2,143 acres of land in Anahola on Kauai into a tree farm to produce fuel for a $90 million biomass-to-energy facility near Koloa.

The Garden Island reports that under the proposed 20-year lease for the land, Green Energy will clear invasive albizia trees, repair existing roads, pay annual lease rents, allow access to a state forest reserve and establish a two-acre community picnic area.

Green Energy and Kauai Island Utility Cooperative last fall received a $72.9 million loan guarantee to build the 6.7-megawatt biomass-to-energy plant , which is scheduled to become operational in 2014.
