Dominion Power Preps for Cold

RICHMOND (WRIC) – Mary McCracken
is prepared to keep the frigid cold out of her home.

“We’ve
closed all of our vents so we hopefully don’t have anything frozen.  We keep the cabinets open where the sinks
are,” she says.

And she’s not the only one
preparing – so is Dominion Power.

David Vanderbloeman with Dominion
Power’s Emergency Preparedness Center says they’re not expecting widespread
problems, but they are ready just in case.

“We’ve already taken steps
to make sure we have plenty of transformers, connectors, that type of thing that
may fail in this cold weather,” he says.

They’re fully staffed and
folks are on stand-by if needed.

Electricity use is
expected to reach a record-high tomorrow, but dominion says they have enough
power for the demand.

However, Vanderbloeman
offers some energy-saving tips for those looking to keep their monthly bill
low.

“In the daytime, open your
shades and curtains up. Let that sunlight come in and have that solar heating.
But when it gets dusk and dark close those shades and curtains to allow that
heat to stay inside.”

If you do lose power for
some reason, make sure you alert Dominion Power at 866-DOM-HELP.
