‘Draft of wind energy policy in a month’

Secretary to the Energy Department Amita Prasad said on Friday that the draft of the policy to encourage wind energy generators in the state will be ready in a month.

Addressing members of the Federation of Karnataka Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FKCCI) here, Amita said: “The policy can be expected in two months. At present, 1/5th of our energy supply comes from wind. There must be an enabling mechanism for options like coastal wind generation for the future.”

Earlier, Amita said that the government would also look at updating its solar policy to fill in missing links.

“We are also looking at amending section 109 of the Land Reforms Act for wind power generation. The Chief Minister has been briefed by the chairman of the KERC in this regard,” Amita Prasad said.
