EIU celebrates Earth Day with weeklong activities – Journal Gazette and Times

CHARLESTON — Look to the castle on Earth Day, which is Tuesday, because EIU’s campus is “Bleeding Blue but Going Green!”

EIU’s “Green Team” has put together a variety of activities to help celebrate the Earth, raise awareness of issues that are troubling this world today and find ways to educate folks on how they can live more sustainable lives.

Events range from screenings of movies such as “The World According to Monsanto,” a documentary on genetically modified organisms; to a 5K race around the campus pond; to a trash/recycling scavenger hunt to the ribbon cutting ceremony for the CENCERE Renewable Energy Center.

There are almost 30 events scheduled throughout the entire week. Stop by campus to pick up a flyer or contact Ryan Siegel, rwsiegel@eiu.edu, or 217-581-8395, for a detailed listing.
