Guam Community College will offer a course on renewable energy next month.

“Introduction to Renewable Energy” is the first of three consecutive courses offered by GCC to help promote sustainability in the workforce as well as in the environment, a press release stated.

The course will outline the fundamentals of different renewable energy technologies like wind, solar, bioenergy and geothermal energy.

“What we are trying to do long-term is to develop a certificate in renewable energy,” said Rick Tyquiengco, chair of GCC’s Technology Department. “This certificate will be beneficial for entry-level technicians in the renewable energy field.”

In spring, the college will also offer Photovoltaics 1. Photovoltaics 2 will be offered next fall.

He also said GCC is working with key private-sector individuals to develop the renewable energy curriculum.
