The TaxPayers’ Alliance warned Government subsidies for wind farms and other “renewable” energy sources would more than double from under £2billion this year to £5billion by 2019.

Household energy bills are expected to be £80 a year higher by then as a direct result of levies designed to help the Government hit green energy targets.

Senior Tories want the Chancellor to use his Autumn Statement mini-budget to scrap green taxes to help hard-pressed families cope.
