Edina-based Geronimo Energy has acquired the wind energy projects under development by Midwest Wind Energy of Chicago for an undisclosed sum, the privately held Minnesota company said Wednesday, March 27.

The acquisition increases Geronimo’s presence in Nebraska and Wisconsin, and it brings it into the Illinois wind market for the first time, the company said in a statement.

Geronimo also said it was welcoming an undisclosed number of Midwest Wind Energy employees to its workforce.

Geronimo Energy is a developer of utility-scale wind and solar energy projects. It has developed three operating wind farms, including the 200-megawatt Prairie Rose Wind Farm in southwestern Minnesota that sells its electricity to Xcel Energy of Minneapolis.
