GOSHEN, Ind. (AP) – Goshen College has announced it will purchase all its electricity from renewable energy sources, such as wind and solar power.

College President Jim Brenneman says the school signed up to take part in Northern Indiana Public Service Co.’s new Green Power Program. He says the program will cut the college’s carbon footprint by about 45 percent.

The college had been using the equivalent of 24 train cars of coal per year to provide electricity to campus each year.

NIPSCO announced in January a plan to allow customers to designate a portion of their monthly electric usage to be attributable to power generated by renewable energy sources. NIPSCO’s program is certified through a third party.
