Power production from renewable sources hit a record Thursday afternoon in San Diego Gas Electric Co.’s service territory, utility spokeswoman Jennifer Ramp said Friday.

About 1,000 megawatts were pumped into the grid from renewable sources such as wind and solar, she said. That was nearly a third of Thursday’s peak consumption of 2,924 megawatts.

About 750 megawatts came from Imperial County solar projects connected to SDGE’s Sunrise Powerlink transmission line, and 50 megawatts came from a Borrego solar project and Kumeyaay wind generators in San Diego County. Local rooftop solar chipped in roughly 200 megawatts.

California law requires the utility to get 33 percent of the region’s total power from renewable sources by 2020.
