Households face £400 bill as green energy subsidies soar

British households will pay almost £400 over the next six years to subsidise green energy, according to new research.

A study by the TaxPayers’ Alliance found that the cost of supporting investment in windpower and other green technologies will double to more than £5 billion by 2018 to 2019.

The subsidy between now and then will amount to £21.9 billion, the group found. About 40 per cent of the UK’s energy is used by its 23.4 million households, leaving an average subsidy of £374.
