NORMAL – The Town of Normal is being recognized for its “green” energy work.

Environmental leaders praised the efforts in the Land of Lincoln at a press conference Friday. As a whole, Illinois has 91 communities with 100 percent renewable electricity.

Locally, Normal now has pushed even further, with three hundred electric cars around town. It has also worked to make the area more bicycle- and pedestrian-friendly. Town leaders say that has them set up well for future business.

“We feel that investing in local green initiatives helps our residents, helps our businesses, helps our economy and certainly helps our community from an economic development standpoint,” said town council member Kevin McCarthy.

McCarthy says if other communities follow Normal’s lead, there are thousands of jobs available in the green energy marketplace.
