An Island company is teaming up with Bullfrog Power to offer clean and renewable energy to customers.

Meetings and Conventions P.E.I. (MC P.E.I.) and Bullfrog Power have announced the new partnership earlier this month, which will see the company offer clients the option of using 100 per cent green energy.

Michael Matthews, executive director of MC P.E.I., said the company already powers its head office on Queen Street in Charlottetown with renewable electricity.

Now, all events held with the company across the province, whether it be a meeting, conference, trade show or gala, will offer the option to choose Bullfrog’s electricity at no extra cost to organizers.

Matthews described it as a win-win situation for both companies as well as for the end users.

“We’re proud to be able to offer a clean energy alternative to meetings and events across the entire province of Prince Edward Island,” said Matthews. “Prince Edward Island has a rich natural heritage and we’re proud to be helping to protect it by ‘bullfrogpowering’ our facilities with clean, green electricity.”

In Atlantic Canada, Bullfrog sources from EcoLogoM-certified wind farms and low-impact hydro facilities in P.E.I. and New Brunswick.

The partnership has also come at a time when P.E.I. is preparing to become an increasingly central destination for meetings and events in Atlantic Canada.

A new P.E.I. convention centre will be opening this August on the waterfront. The building is attached to the Delta Prince Edward.

Matthews said he hopes the option is an additional attraction for groups to hold meetings in P.E.I.

Through the partnership, an event’s square footage is first used to estimate its electricity usage. Bullfrog’s generators then put renewable electricity onto the grid to match the amount of electricity the event uses.

Bullfrog’s Maritime generators also put renewable electricity onto the grid to match the amount of power used by MC P.E.I.’s head office.

Holly Bond, national sales director with Bullfrog Power, said that by choosing green energy MC P.E.I. is not only reducing its own environmental impact but also supporting the development of new renewable projects.

“‘Bullfrogpowered’ events with Meetings and Conventions P.E.I. will be helping to educate the public on the importance of choosing green energy and demonstrating to organizers and meeting planners how easy it is to make their events even greener,” said Bond.
