Penalizing fossil fuels won’t make green energy successful — John A. Schrandt

The author of the Monday letter “We can reduce our use of fossil fuels” opined that we should put an ever-increasing carbon tax on our current energy sources to make green energy more competitive.

You could cover the country with windmills, and it would never produce a significant percentage of energy. And taxing one segment of the economy to benefit another is certainly anti-competitive and anti-capitalistic.

But maybe that is the whole point. The same philosophy is used to sell Obamacare — make all existing policies so expensive that it’s the only alternative. And look how well that is working out.
