On Tuesday, PNM will unveil the new Otero County Solar Energy Center.

The new facility, part of a $17.5 million investment in solar energy by PNM, will provide enough electricity for 2,450 average homes in Otero County, the company said in a news release Monday.

The Otero County Solar Energy Center brought 115 construction-related jobs to the area.

This year, PNM has announced several major renewable projects, including plans to open the state’s first geothermal energy site in Lordsburg next year.

Last month, the company opened the Manzano Solar Energy Center in Los Lunas.

Manzano, and a new PNM Los Lunas Solar Energy Center expansion, are part of a $22.8 million investment for the state’s largest utility. The entire Los Lunas project has enough cells to power nearly 5,000 homes.

The projects are all part of PNM’s plan to double the amount of solar capacity the utility will own in 2014, costing a total of $180 million.
