The 2013 Better Living Home, Garden and Lifestyle Show hits Portland’s Expos Center from Friday, March 23rd through Sunday, March 24th. Unlike a more conventional home and garden show, the businesses and products on display have an environmental focus. You’ll find everything from Community Supported Agriculture farmers to solar panels to electric vehicles to an eco-chic fashion show.

If you’ve ever wondered how to make your current home more sustainable — or how green new construction can be, whether solar panels are a viable solution, what it’s like to drive an electric car or how to create a stronger garden, the Better Living Home, Garden and Lifestyle Show has your answers. It’s the largest sustainable lifestyle show in the Northwest and local, made in Oregon products abound.

Admission is free, so it’s a great opportunity to check out innovative ways to green your house, and your life. Many vendors will have free product samples on hand as well, including Belkin’s Conserve sockets to save electricity in the home, various food samples, soy travel candles and, if you pedal over to the show, free bike tune-ups to keep things running smoothly. There will also be contests and giveaways for a “green paint job,” a yard’s worth of flowers and a Portland Timbers Fan Pack and more.

Highlights of this year’s event include:

  • The Energy Trust of Oregon non-profit will teach attendees how to minimize their consumption and save money. They’ll also have cutting edge wind power generating and solar power systems on display, and they’ll walk people through the process of getting tax credits and cash incentives when they install these low impact alternatives.
  • NW Natural’s Blue Home is a full demo of an 1,100 square foot home that’s heated with natural gas and hot water.
  • Portland General Electric offers more energy savings tips and highlights its renewable energy undertakings.
  • Energizing Oregon has five different electric car models that event attendees can take for a spin.
  • The Wellness Pavilion features experts in acupuncture, nutrition, massage, chiropractic, herbs, supplements, naturopathy, yoga and general wellness.
  • Plenty of activities geared towards kids make the event family-friendly and educational for all ages.
