Abergorki Wind Farm public exhibition dates announced

REGWindpower today announces two opportunities for local people to find out more about a project to build a wind farm between Treorchy and Maerdy.

The proposal comprises three wind turbines sited next to the Mynydd Maerdy Wind Farm which is currently being built.

We propose turbines measuring a maximum of 145m to the tips of the blades and could, on average, provide enough safe, clean renewable energy to meet the annual electricity needs of around 6,300 homes .

In addition REGWindpower also proposes setting up a Community Fund worth £36,000 every year to support local good causes throughout the life of the wind farm.

Local people have the chance to discuss the project with members of the development team, as well as view visualisations demonstrating how the wind farm will appear, at the following times:

• 2pm to 8pm, Friday 14th December at The Park and Dare Theatre, Station Road, Treorchy, CF42 4NL
• 2pm to 8pm, Monday 17th December at Maerdy Community Centre, Park Road, Maerdy, CF43 4DJ

Sergio Zappulo, REGWindpower’s Development Manager for the project, said: “Our plans are still at an early stage and we are keen to hear the thoughts of local people, both on the project and also how the Community Fund can best meet local needs.

“We think this is an excellent place to generate significant amounts of renewable electricity while minimising effects on the surrounding environment. Feedback from events like this will help us shape a sensitively designed project.

“We look forward to explaining our proposals to as many people as possible and will be very happy to answer their questions.

“We are also particularly looking forward to hearing local people’s ideas on how the Community Fund could be spent.”
