  • After receiving damage during a severe wind shift in October of last year, the city of El Dorado has been in the process of getting the wind turbine at the Wastewater Treatment Facility repaired.

The damage occurred as the wind turbine was turning into the wind and the blade tips deployed and flaired out as a braking mechanism. That caused one of the tips to break.

Kurt Bookout, public utilities director, said the new blade tip is being manufactured. It is supposed to take four to five weeks to complete and they are on week two of that timeline. In addition, the shaft is being shipped to San Diego for repairs, and they don’t expect any delays with that.

“Hopefully, it will be complete in three weeks and we will get it reassembled and going again,” Bookout said.

The turbine is expected to produce enough energy during the course of a year to run the treatment facility.
