Edina residents interested in learning a bit more about solar energy are encouraged to attend a workshop from 7-8:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 15, at Edina City Hall.

The event is being hosted by the Edina Energy and Environment Commission, in partnership with the Metro Clean Energy Resource Teams and Xcel Energy. Attendees will get a free education on the ins and outs of solar energy, learning from residents and businesses who have already installed solar panels.

“This event is really for anyone interested in solar,” said City of Edina Environmental Engineer Ross Bintner. “Solar panels are getting cheaper year after year. With the incentives and rebates available, now is a great time to start producing your own energy with solar.”

Dan Thiede, communications coordinator with the Clean Energy Resource Teams, said learning about solar energy from people who live with it on a daily basis has been very successful at other similar events.

“They learn about what people like and dislike, in addition to getting some tips on things people might have done differently,” Thiede said.

Part of the forum will also focus on incentives and rebates for people interested in installing solar panels on their homes or businesses.

“They leave with a great idea of next steps to take afterward,” Thiede said. “We also act as a technical assistant for anyone planning on moving forward with solar energy.”

People can register for the free workshop online at www.solarworksedina.eventbrite.com, though registration is not required to attend.
