RUSSELL, Kansas – About 100 people gathered in Russell Tuesday night to learn about a proposal to transport wind energy.

It’s called the Grain Belt Express Clean Line, and it would take energy from wind farms in Kansas and export it to eastern states that are not able to harness wind power effectively.

“We’re developing a transmission line project to let Kansas export renewable energy from the state. Kansas could produce more than 80 times the energy that it could produce just from wind and so we wanna build a bridge for Kansas to move this renewable resource to market,” said Diana Rivera.

Another meeting on the proposal will be held Thursday at the Junior/Senior high school at 6 p.m.
