Revisiting a federal analysis of wind energy subsidies – Austin American

Last week I wrote a story about pushback against wind energy among Republican policy-makers in Texas.

The story noted that in 2010, according to data with the U.S. Energy Information Administration, the national wind energy industry received 42 percent of electricity production subsidies and support; natural gas got 5.5 percent.

That EIA analysis “naturally distorts things” because it is based on years in which a post-2008 stimulus grant program — now expired — targeted renewables, says Colin Meehan, director of regulatory and government affairs for First Solar, an Arizona-based, publicly-traded company.
