The Steele Flats Wind Energy Project is another step closer to becoming a reality. Last night the Jefferson County Planning Commission voted 7-1 to recommend the project to the Full County Commission.

The project includes 32 wind generators in Jefferson County and 12 in Gage County along Highway 8 east of Steele City. The towers are 426 feet high and each turbine can power 400 homes.

The County Commission will hold a final hearing on the project at their next meeting at 10AM Tuesday at which time they will take a vote on final approval of the project. If the Commission approves the project is expected to be complete by the end of the year.
