Oasis Energy unveils video tutorial on how to most efficiently use a ceiling fan.

Baltimore, MD (PRWEB) August 22, 2013

Oasis Energy’s latest video explores some of the lesser known facts about ceiling fans. It’s part of an ongoing series of videos produced by Oasis Energy in an effort to increase consumer knowledge on energy efficiency. The video provides easy steps they can take to reduce their electricity and gas usage.

The video explains the science behind how a ceiling fan works, and addresses a few common misconceptions people have about fans.

The first fact is that ceiling fans don’t cool rooms, they cool people. The ceiling fan blows air downward towards the people in the room. When the air moves across a person’s skin, it causes increased evaporation and creates a wind chill effect. This wind chill effect can make an 80 degree room feel like it’s 75 degrees. Since ceiling fans do not lower the temperature of a space, they should be turned off when no one is in the room.

As described in Oasis Energy’s video, when cooling a room, make sure the fan is spinning counterclockwise. When spinning counterclockwise, the fan blades push air downwards, cooling the people occupying the room.

The video notes that when heating a room, make sure the ceiling fan is spinning clockwise. Since warm air rises, it tends to gather near the ceiling. When the fan spins clockwise, the fan pushes the air towards the ceiling, moving the warm air down the walls gently circulating it throughout the room. This results in a more comfortable, evenly heated room.

“Oasis Energy is dedicated to helping consumers reduce their energy usage. Usage associated with heating and cooling makes up a large portion of our customers bills, so we try to share as many tips as possible to more efficiently heat and cool their homes,” said Justin Snyder, National Brand Manager for Oasis Energy.
