David Cameron signalled a major shift in energy policy today as he told MPs
that the Goverment should “roll back” costly environmental regulations and
levies brought in by the last Labour government.

He also announced a review of energy market competition that aides said would
examine the Big Six suppliers’ pricing and profits.

The plan emerged as Mr Cameron came under pressure at Prime Minister’s
Question from Ed Miliband, who taunted him over Sir John Major’s call
yesterday for a windfall tax on energy companies.

Mr Miliband’s promise to freeze prices for 20 months if he wins the next
election
