Scottish officials have refused permission on appeal to Volkswind UK’s planned Blackburn wind farm in the Borders.

The Directorate for Planning and Environmental Appeals ruled against the six-turbine development near Duns on the grounds of landscape and visual impacts.

The reporter said that while he had taken account of socioeconomic benefits of the wind farm they were “insufficient to overcome the deficiencies of the scheme”.

Volkswind had been seeking permission for turbine tips of up to 126.5 metres and top power of 13.8MW. It was the company’s only Scottish wind farm.

Scottish Borders Council turned down the project in summer 2012 following an application in July 2011.
