Week in Review: More on Aly; Selectmen Talk Marijuana, Solar Power and …

Life gets busy, and Patch certainly understands that. So with that in mind, here are a few stories you might have missed on Needham Patch this week:

  1. Adirondack Chair Auction Set Sept. 29—After seeing colorful Adirondack chairs around Needham this summer, residents will have the opportunity to bring one or two of them home at an upcoming silent and live auction at Needham Town Hall.
  2. Aly Raisman Injured at California Show—Needham Olympian Aly Raisman and teammate McKayla Maroney were injured after they fell from the uneven bars while performing in the Kellogg’s Tour of Gymnastics Champions in California over the weekend. Luckily, Raisman is on the mend, as she tweeted to fans later in the week.
  3. St. Sebastian’s in Needham Opens New BuildingSt. Sebastian’s School opened the 2012-13 school year with a Blessing and Dedication Ceremony for the new Science, Math and Library Center. Students, parents, faculty and staff, representatives from the town of Needham, and friends turned out to mark this historic moment in St. Sebastian’s School history.
  4. Needham Health Officials Speak Out Against Medical Marijuana Initiative—Needham health officials spoke out against a question that will appear on the Nov. 6 ballot seeking to legalize access to medical marijuana with a doctor’s consent.
  5. Needham Firefighters Celebrated on September 11—On a day when communities throughout the United States are reminded of the sacrifice and duty of their public safety officers, in light of the tragic events of Sept. 11, 2001, Needham quietly celebrated two of its own.
  6. Name Proposed for New Senior Center—Representatives from the Needham Council on Aging have proposed a name for the new senior center.
  7. Residents Sought for New Solar Energy Committee—Needham selectmen are looking for experts in solar energy and other qualified individuals to serve on a new committee that will be exploring ways the town can develop alternative energy projects on public land.
  8. New Aly Raisman Documentary To Air Sept. 17—Needham’s Aly Raisman will be back in the spotlight in a follow-up video feature on Comcast SportsNet New England.
  9. Mansfield Football Falls to Needham 21-14—Despite a strong start, the Mansfield High football team lost to Needham High School Friday in Mansfield.
  10. Meet the Artist… This week, Patch chatted with “A Chair To Remember” artists Ronni and Amos Eisenberg.
